Stabilized Mud Blocks - Alternative to traditional Bricks!!

What are Stabilized Mud Blocks? Stabilized Mud Blocks (SMBs) are an alternative green Building that can be used as an alternative to Bricks or ACC blocks. Bricks and ACC blocks used more energy to produce than SMBs. SMBs are made from a mixture of locally available soil, water, and stabilizers such as cement, lime, or fly ash. The exact proportions of each material may vary depending on the type of soil and stabilizer used, as well as the desired properties of the SMBs. However, a general guideline for SMB production is: Soil: The soil used in SMB production should be clayey or silty, with low sand content. The ideal soil should have a plasticity index (PI) between 10 and 20, and a pH value between 6 and 7.5. Water: The water used in SMB production should be clean and free from impurities. Stabilizers: The stabilizers used in SMB production include cement, lime, or fly ash. The amount of stabilizer used will depend on the type of stabilizer and the soil characteristics. Typically, the

Preparation Before Getting in to Architecture

If you had decided to choose architecture as career, then you must prepare your self before taking admission in Architecture School.
Here, there are few points that will help you..

1. know your interest..

If you have decided to go in to the Architecture, think again is that your true interest? because if you had decided by only your sketching skill than you might be wrong at the moment. but if you love to travel, sketching things & scenes, photography other than that if you know communication and can convince your point in front of small group. than it is your field.

one more thing you need to be good at model making, sketches, drafting(technical), and a good visualization power. you must have sense of scale.

2. Prepare for entrance exam (NATA - for India)

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture, is conducted by National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture which is a body of Council of Architecture, New Delhi in India. this exam is for admission in bachelor of architecture in India. for more information visit

3. Observe surrounding
observation is the key thing in architecture to broaden up your mind. just start observing small things your around like details of furniture of your house, design of openings(doors/windows/etc), furniture arrangement of your house. and learn to understand why they are seem to be like what they are? can you design better than they exist or do they need some value addition. this will help you think critically for problem & will help you to find solution in future. there are some exercise are available like memory mapping, puzzle mapping, etc.

4. Know your School

Before getting admission in to any architecture school, gather information about that school. important information like, campus & infrastructure, teaching faculty & their experience , university grade,  registration in council of architecture( www.coa.nic.in ) , distance from nearest city, history of collage & achievements, library etc. other information you will get from existing students & alumni students of that collage. one must get all the information about the collage before getting in.

you can see the status of collage in india from here

5. Know your subjects

before starting your school, know about syllabus and subject provided by the collage and prepare your self for learning. know from where you'll get your stationary like, parallel, set squares, french curve, pencils(8B to 4h) mechanical pencil (0.5 mm, 0.9 mm , 2 mm) markers, tressing paper,  drawing sheets, drawing board, eraser, etc. this list should be provided by collage if not ask your seniors. and buy only necessary things. don't get over excited while buying stationary.

6. Know your expenses during the studies.

there is one more thing to think about. it will not a subject to study for upper income group of family, but for middle income group and students from poor family. you need to understand your expenses during 5 years of your architecture journey. it will cost nearly 1 lac INR per semester average on stationary, print outs, study tours, etc (tuition fees extra).
